Have you ever thought of running in a hoodie? Me neither. I was doing some holiday shopping on REI’s website and came across the Altra Viz-Tex Hoodie. It was on sale, so I bought one for myself.
I went for a run with the hoodie the first day it arrived. As I got to the trail, I realized at 60 degrees, it may be too warm for a sweatshirt, but I thought I’d try anyway. The moisture-wicking polyester fabric breathed very well and I didn’t get hot at all.
My next run with the hoodie was in 38-degree weather. The hoodie managed to keep me warm without getting overheated. I started the run with gloves, but about halfway through the 11-mile run, I took the gloves off and stored it in the zippered kangaroo style pocket above the waist. I wouldn’t recommend putting anything heavy in these pockets, but it was perfect for the gloves.
The arm sleeves feel like a technical running shirt, which makes it easy to move around in. The hood fits snuggly on top of my trucker hat for those windy days. The rest of the hoodie is made of a softer polyester material that has the feel of cotton material but breathes much better than cotton. This area is also reflective that works well for early morning and night runs.
I plan on making this hoodie a staple for my winter runs. Pick one up at REI’s outlet store and save big.
